I have the honour to acknowledge with thanks receipt of your letter no. 66 14/20 of the 12th inst. and to report that I have received from the Crown Agents for the Colonies an advance of £56 on my personal security.
The Crown Agents informed me verbally on the 22nd inst. that they have no instructions to pay me the amount to which I am entitled as a contribution towards the cost of my passages (6½ fares) to Hong Kong, inasmuch as I booked my passages in the S.S. "Lamba Maru" myself and not through the Crown Agents - my action in regard to these passages received your approval in your letter no. 66680/1919 of December 8 last. I beg that the Crown Agents may be authorised to advance to me the proportion sanctioned as a contribution by the Hong Kong Government towards the cost of the two and a half fares I require to Hong Kong by the Nippon Yusen Kaisha steamer "Lamba Maru".
